This item is rated "10" on the Add Helium pre-owned items scale (see below). This unit only has 3 dives on it and is in excellent condition.
The O2ptima is a fully closed circuit, constant PO2, electronically driven rebreather with built-in decompression ability. Unique in the rebreather marketplace, the Optima is specifically designed for the rigors of cave diving where immediate surfacing is not possible. The resulting features are also highly desirable for wreck and deep ocean divers.
The O2ptima delivers excellent work-of-breathing that allows divers faced with strong flow or ripping current to breathe comfortably. Over-the-shoulder counterlungs along with the scrubber positioned behind the head means gas has less distance to travel, so the diver does not have to work as hard to "pull" gas through the loop. This also allows the Optima to have smaller diameter loop hoses, which minimizes jaw fatigue.
A stainless steel frame and Rhinotec 600-denier polyester cover protects the O2ptima from tight cave squeezes and rolling boats. Hoses, regulators and tanks are kept neatly streamlined and away from potential snags inside a wreck or cave.
The O2ptima comes standard with the following features:
- Over-the-shoulder counterlungs
- Shearwater DiveCan Petrel Handset controller
- DiveCan Heads Up Display
- Shrimp BOV
- Automatic Diluent Valve (ADV)
- Water traps
- Regulators and hoses
- Molex Oxygen Sensors
- 2.5L counterlungs
- CCR EXP wing
The O2ptima features the latest DiveCan electronics system from Shearwater Research. Shearwater has been setting the standard on rebreather systems for years.
A petrel handset allows for electronic PO2 control, as well as providing 3 cell PO2 readings, and real-time trimix decompression, all in a compact case with easy to read display.
Dual battery compartments on the O2ptima provide power for the handset, HUD and solenoid.
The DiveCan head’s up display shows cell PO2 via a flashing Smithers code.
The O2ptima's design includes minimal risk of a caustic cocktail. Two water traps in the loop along with horizontal, behind-the-head positioning of the scrubber canister create a difficult path for water to travel.
The O2ptima uses Extendair Cartridges, and has an option for a re-packable granular scrubber adaptor.
Over-the-shoulder 2.5L counterlungs, 5 liter total loop volume provide easier work of breathing in all dive positions. Counterlungs include diluent and oxygen manual addition valves. An over pressurization drain valve is located on the exhalation counterlung. The O2ptima counterlungs are covered in tear-resistant Rhinotec.
The dive surface valve utilizes a friction seal so there are no o-rings to wear out and replace on the barrel. The larger diameter provides optimal work of breathing effort.
Automatic diluent valve adds diluent to loop automatically maintaining a breathable volume. Located on the inhalation counterlung, the ADV includes an in-line shutoff in case of free flow.
Dual water traps, one in the canister and one in the T-piece on the exhalation counter lung minimizes possible water interaction with the scrubber cartridge.
